Clik here to view. While purchasing Gatorade, at our nearest supermarket, to sober up on a Friday morning, I saw this headline on the newspaper stand: “UAE laws translated into English, online soon“
I knew TheNational has its wonderful website and so I found the article online.
That’s great! Isn’t it. The government is setting a firm foundation on transparency and what better way than to do it online. Even better, Mr. Abdulla al Majid, Adviser of Abu Dhabi’s Ministry of Justice has stated:
“The best feature about this is the search engine which allows you to find even one word amid a sea of legal documents. That changes the face of research for academics, lawyers, judges, businesses and the public. You can imagine the kind of impact this will have on the overall justice system.“
So the government not only knows the importance of online presence but also has embraced the power of search in information. Two thumbs up I have to say.
Another article from Business24|7 also caught my attention this morning. It speaks on Web-only newspapers approach in US and Europe.
The article did not spell positive effects web-only shift for major newspapers in the western regions. It mentions of a study suggesting that readership has decreased despite having the content available to the public. I’ll have to admit, flipping through the pages felt better than having them on my 15″ monitor.
The last piece of news (also from Business24|7) I had my eyes on was the fact that marketers turn to social media channels in this time of economic downturn.
If you have the rising popularities of Twitter, Facebook, & LinkedIn, you’re bound to have organizations turn to social media to expand every bit of significant business.
So what’s my point?
Nothing much, except for the fact that if you’re reading this article, it means that you’ve probably accepted the fact that any content, whether it be laws of the land, news from any continent or business shifting-styles, is now coming online.
Is this good or bad?
I’m not even sure how to answer that question. That may depend on how information is consumed. If you have the case of the newspapers, then the decrease in readership will automatically equal to bad business.
However if you consider search and social media, they have now established a new trend towards personal branding, new media marketing, effective engagements, etc. Greater targeted coverage is now equal to better business.
I think I can now safely say that the internet is nearing it’s peak of esteem. Whether or not it promises a positive outlook to everyone of us, will depend on your judgement (whether subjective or objective)
What do you think? Let me know your thoughts on this.
